Biography
Bill Lowe was one of the firm's founding
partners in 1976. Mr. Lowe specializes in insurance coverage, declaratory
relief, bad faith and appellate work. Bill specializes in insurance coverage
issues relating to the duties to defend and indemnify actions under various
liability policies. Bill began his legal career in 1973 with a large
insurance defense firm where he acquired a range of experience while
specializing in insurance coverage and law and motion.
Bill Lowe defends both first and
third party bad faith actions involving claims handling, coverage,
cancellations and statutory liability. He has defended insurers in direct
fraud actions and has also defended a number of actions involving alleged
unfair claims practices and alleged violations of the Business and
Professions Code. His work for insurance companies also includes defending
numerous cases involving agency liabilities. Finally, Bill is a seasoned
appellate attorney, including many appeals in bad faith actions.
Bill has provided over 5,000 coverage
opinions in the insurance coverage area. He has filed and prosecuted
countless declaratory relief actions on behalf of insurers and has over 50
trials in declaratory relief actions. He specializes in providing opinions
regarding the duty to defend under a liability policy, wrongful termination,
sexual harassment, discrimination, breach of contract, battery, infliction
of emotional distress, economic damages, policy period, business pursuits,
offense based torts, willful conduct and rights regarding independent
counsel.
Bill has authored numerous appellate
briefs in the areas of insurance coverage, bad faith and substantive
liability issues. Bill has over 12 published decisions from the Court of
Appeal. Bill has handled a wide variety of specialized tort litigation
including malicious prosecution, construction defect, product liability,
boundary line disputes, and condominium association issues.
Bill was admitted to the State Bar of
California in 1972. He is active in the Association of Southern California
Defense Counsel, the Ninth Judicial Circuit Historical Society and the U.S.
Supreme Court Historical Society. Bill has been admitted to practice before
the U.S. District Court for Central, Southern, Eastern, and Northern
Districts, and before the Ninth Circuit Ct. of Appeals.
Bill has provided over 50 seminars in
the areas of insurance law, bad faith, employment torts and construction
law. For many years he has compiled insurance law case notes for each third
party liability insurance case decided in California. He provides these case
notes to clients on an annual basis. Bill also has authored a book of
insurance resource materials. |
